History

U.S. destroyer USS HUGH PURVISPURVIS Systems Incorporated was established on May 7, 1973, by a group of colleagues who had worked together on an experimental sonar system program in Long Island, NY. Since a significant portion of their previous employment had involved sea-trials together aboard the U.S. destroyer USS HUGH PURVIS, it seemed only fitting that this experience evolved into the PURVIS company name.

The co-founders set out initially to utilize their expertise with Navy sonar systems to acquire Department of Defense (DoD) customers. PURVIS' first major contract was with the U.S. Navy to assist in the specification and development of the TRIDENT Command and Control System at the Naval Underwater Systems Center (NUSC) (now called the Naval Undersea Warfare Center [NUWC]) in Newport, RI. In 1973, PURVIS was also awarded a contract with the DoD to develop a computerized system for testing small caliber ammunition for the U.S. Army.

PURVIS expanded its client base to municipal government in 1975 with a contract supporting the City of New York Fire Department (FDNY). This contract provided technical services for the design of a Computer Aided Dispatch System (CADS). Soon after, PURVIS was awarded an FDNY contract for technical assistance in the implementation of a citywide communications network.

It was in these early years that our reputation for providing quality services began. These successes were the cornerstone for the long-term engineering and technical services we have provided to NUWC and the FDNY - comprehensive, quality services that continue to this day. Other long-term customers include the Naval Surface Warfare Center, the Surface Warfare Development Group and various commercial establishments.
